Community Read and Watch: The Lost World by Arthur Conan Doyle In-Person

Dinosaurs have captured the imagination of people for millennia. The Lost World by Arthur Conan Doyle, first published in 1912, popularized dinosaurs to the public and inspired later works of fiction such as the 1995 novel The Lost World by Michael Crichton. While published as a sequel to Crichton's novel Jurassic Park, the incorporates many elements from Doyle's The Lost World and reuses the title as an homage to Doyle's work. Together as a community, we will read both novels, watch a film inspired by each novel, and then discuss the novels and films.

In June, we will begin with Doyle's The Lost World. Read the novel then join us at the library for a viewing of the 1925 silent film. Please be advised that both the novel and film depicts language, viewpoints and themes expressed that while common to its time in history may be distressing to modern readers, so viewer discretion is advised.
